July marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Twenty-one agencies and organizations from across the State are celebrating with a series of virtual workshops throughout the month, culminating in a big, Texas-style celebration.
A keynote and special celebration is planned for Friday, July 24th and include a series of notable disability advocates sharing their experience with the ADA, such as what it was like to see it implemented, how it has furthered the civil rights of Americans with disabilities, and where it still needs to go. After that, we will take a virtual tour of Texas with brief ADA birthday wishes from local disability advocates across the state.

Title I of the ADA prohibits employers from discriminating against a qualified applicant with a disability. Texas Workforce Commission - Vocational Rehabilitation Services (TWC-VRS) assists individuals with disabilities to prepare for, obtain, retain and advance in employment. VRS can also assist employers with information about how to create an inclusive workplace and can make referrals to employers of qualified individuals with disabilities. This webinar will provide an overview of how VRS aligns with the ADA by assisting individuals in achieving their employment goals and employers in building a strong talent pipeline.
