AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded Owens Corning-Irving Roofing and Asphalt LLC in partnership with Mountain View College a $247,223 Skills Development Fund grant to provide job training. The grant will benefit workers in the Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas area.
“Congratulations to Mountain View College, Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas, Workforce Solutions of Tarrant County, Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas and their partners Owens Corning-Irving Roofing and Asphalt and Goodwill Industries Fort Worth on these well-deserved grants,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Aaron Demerson. “These partnerships focus on creating career opportunities and providing specialized training, which will continue to support our Texas employers and our world-class Texas talent pipeline.”
The Skills Development Fund grant to Mountain View College will be used to provide custom training to 168 new and incumbent workers for industry-related topics with focused instruction on manufacturing. Trainees will include electricians, operations leader and senior engineering specialists.
TWC has also awarded Goodwill Industries Ft. Worth a $115,159 Self Sufficiency Fund training grant to help 55 individuals transition into the workforce. The grant will help provide job training skills including medical billing and coding, forklift operating and Microsoft Office. Grant funding from the Self Sufficiency Fund will assist in developing the technical education and learning environment that will lead to industry recognized certificates and credentials.
The Self Sufficiency Fund provides funding to eligible training providers including nonprofit 501(c)(3) community-based organizations, Texas public community or technical colleges, or the Texas Engineering Extension Service. The Self Sufficiency Fund pays for curriculum development, instructor fees and certifications, training materials, certain work-related expenses for trainees, and some training equipment for targeted industry clusters.
