AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded the College of the Mainland a $188,713 Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant. The grant will help the school purchase and install equipment to provide students with training in the occupation of chemical plant and systems operator.

“Congratulations to the College of the Mainland. JET grants are essential to ensure that students are training on the most up-to-date equipment and learning applicable skills for their future professions,” said TWC Chairman and Commissioner Representing the Public Bryan Daniel. “This grant will focus on specialized training in the chemical plant and system operation profession which will directly benefit the Gulf Coast region.”

The Jobs and Education for Texans grant program allocates funds each biennium to defray start-up costs associated with the development of career and technical education programs to public community and technical colleges, and independent school districts. Equipment funded through JET grants must be used to train students for jobs in high-demand occupations.

In 2019, TWC awarded 27 grants totaling $5,718,073 to public community and technical colleges and independent school districts for programs that focus on supporting new, emerging industries or high-demand occupations through the JET grant program.

Eligible educational institutions can apply for the next phase of JET funding through a competitive grant process. Please visit the JET Grant Program webpage for more information about upcoming solicitations.
