AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded two Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants to Beeville Independent School District (ISD) and Sinton Independent School District. These grants will benefit workers in the Workforce Solutions Coastal Bend Area.

“The JET program is one of several initiatives administered by TWC that helps students succeed and our economy grow stronger,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Julian Alvarez. “Presenting these grants to Beeville and Sinton ISDs ensures that our local communities have a workforce that is competitive and talented.”

Beeville ISD will use the $248,079 JET grant to purchase and install equipment to provide students with training for careers in welding. Beeville ISD will partner with Coastal Bend College to provide students the opportunity to earn industry certificates, a college certificate and/or even an associate’s degree in welding.

Sinton ISD will use the $190,569 JET grant to purchase and install equipment to provide students with training for careers in healthcare. Sinton ISD will partner with Del Mar College to provide students the opportunity to earn prerequisite certifications for careers as Nursing Aides, Phlebotomy Technicians, Electrocardiography (EKG) Technicians and Patient Care Technicians.

The Jobs and Education for Texans grant program allocates funds each biennium to defray start-up costs associated with the development of career and technical education programs to public community and technical colleges, and independent school districts. Equipment funded through JET grants must be used to train students for jobs in high-demand occupations.

Eligible educational institutions can apply for the next phase of JET funding through a competitive grant process. The Request for Applications solicitation provides information and instruction on how to submit a proposal packet. Go to the JET Grant Program webpage to access the Request for Applications solicitation.
